1953 Cadillac Fleetwood Series Sixty

The1953 Cadillac featured a larger grill, with two large "bullets" which created a lot of discussion through the years. This was the first car to get a 12 volt electrical system, one-piece rear window, and air conditioning using Freon 12 (Oldmobile 98 also offered these items). Other options included power steering, power brakes, hydro-electric power windows and seat, Signal-Seeking radio with optional foot switch, front and rear speakers (rear speaker n/a on convertibles), Autronic Eye automatic headlight dimmer, fog lamps, wire wheels, Ventshades, Outside Sun Visor, Instrument Panel Anti-Glare Cover, Windshield Washer, Monogrammed Blanket, and many other options.

For The 1953 Model Year There Were Minimal Trim Changes To The Sixty Special Which Included Wider Rocker Panel Moldings, Which Moved The Chrome Louvers Higher Up On The Rear Doors, And A Revised Grille And Bumper. However, Significant Engineering Changes Were Made To The 1953 Models, Including A New 12-Volt Electrical System And A Jump In Power For The 331 cu in Engine – Now Rated At 210 hp.

The Fleetwood 60S (model# 6019SX) was the top-of-the-line four door sedan offered in 1953. This magnificent vehicle was the choice for doctors, lawyers, and many other professionals. Air Conditioning was a very popular option. The frame was six inches longer than the other models. The body was longer and the trunk was longer and sleeker, and the fender skirts were longer . Autronic-Eye (automatic headlight dimming) was also a popular option. The Fleetwood 60S model is easily recognized by the extensive use of extra stainless steel along the rocker panels and the eight 8" vertical "gills" on each of the rear doors. The Fleetwood listed for $6,800 with all options and 20,000 Fleetwood 60S models were produced. Its American contenders included Packard, Lincoln, Chrysler and Imperial.
